Democrats Delay Southwick

In early 2001, President George W. Bush nominated Judge Charles Pickering to fill a seat on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Except for the one year that Pickering served on that court with a recess appointment, this vacancy (termed a judicial emergency) has persisted until today. The Democrats delayed, obstructed, blocked and filibustered Pickering. Then the Democrats delayed, obstructed and blocked Mike Wallace who eventually withdrew.
